Google API Developer Challenge=Registration and Submission Still Open

If you’ve got innovative ideas regarding apps which can improve the quality of life for communities or aid local governments in improving their services, then the Google Places API Developer Challenge 2012 is for you!The apps submission window was opened since 15th August and will be closed by October 31st,2012.So,you still have time if you are interested in this.

Google is inviting developers, designers and tech savvy individuals from around the world to make something that improves their communities or governments by using the Google Places API and its database of places and tools. The developers of the winning applications will receive a VIP experience at Google I/O 2013 where your app will be showcased.
With the Google Places API, you can search for information about a variety of nearby places such as establishments, geographic locations and prominent points of interest. The Google Places API also allows you to tailor your place search results by including your own places and affecting place rankings with check-ins.
All African developers are encouraged to submit their entries to this challenge and win the chance to further develop their idea and aid their local communities in improving the quality of life.
Getting Started
  1. Click here to sign up for the Google Places API Developer Challenge. Once you’ve registered, Challenge updates will be emailed to you and you app idea will as well be included on updates section of the site.
  2. Go to the Rules section for a more detailed look at the rules for entering the Challenge.
  3. Go to the Resources Page to learn about the Google Places API and download the API key you’ll need to build your app.
  4. Links to a large number of public data sets are also on the Resources Page, and for more information on the types of Apps various cities need, go to News and Discussions.
  5. Build your app and make sure you submit it before the Challenge deadline of October 31, 2012.
  6. Click the submit button while in your account to submit your application. Each contestant will be required to provide the following as part of their submission:
    • A link to the Application.
    • A link to a video of the Application.
    • A text description of the Application.
    • At least one photograph of the working software Application.
  7.
